Government

About Bingen

The City of Bingen was established in 1924.  We are a Code city and operate a Mayor-Council, or “strong mayor,” form of government. The two major components to this system of government are the City Council; and a Mayor.

The City Council is the legislative body, formulating and adopting City policies–which includes approving the budget, and enacting local laws, resolutions and ordinances.  The Mayor is responsible for carrying those policies and directives.  The Mayor attends and presides over council meetings but does not vote, except in the case of a tie.

Bingen’s government consists of a Mayor and five Council Members elected at large.  All the positions are non-partisan.  The Mayor and Council Members serve 4 year terms.

We encourage citizens to participate in government!  Your involvement assists the City in our effort to provide quality services consistent with the desires and needs of this community.
