Public Works Department

The City of Bingen is extremely proud of our Public Works Department.

This small, but hardworking team of professionals keeps our city functioning all year round.  Some of the vital functions handled by the department are:

  • Plowing snow
  • Street maintenance (signs, striping, repair, etc)
  • Maintaining the park
  • Keeping water and sewer lines functioning (fixing leaks, removing clogs, etc)
  • Reading water meters
  • 24/7 response to water and sewer emergencies
  • Roadside mowing and vegetation maintenance
  • Ditch, culvert and stormwater upkeep
  • Planting, weeding, pruning downtown planters
  • Installing new water and sewer connections
  • Maintaining City-owned property and buildings
  • Hauling yard debris away for residents during Fall Leaf Pick-up
  • Putting up and taking down seasonal lights
  • Various special event demands

Although Public Works is the largest department within Bingen, it’s still very small with just three full-time employees.  Each staff member is an essential part of this team.  With such a broad array of responsibilities, tasks vary day-to-day and this crew has the knowledge and skill diversity to tackle whatever arises.

The Public Works Department successfully keeps program costs to a minimum by openly sharing knowledge, maintaining our own equipment, seeking grant funding and engaging Interlocal cooperation with other agencies.  Bingen is dedicated to providing a high level of customer service and we understand the importance of being responsive to community needs and requests.
